We are holding two International Vocal Competitions in 2020 and singers can apply to one or both Competitions.

OPERA, ORATORIO, ART SONG

FINALIST LIVE ROUND in New York City.

Semi-Finalists and Finalists are selected from the submitted materials.  Finalists are invited to sing in the Live Rounds in New York City.  This is a ticketed event and is open to the public.   

$500 PRIZE for First Place in OPERA

  1. Register early, and prepare your materials to submit after you register on or before December 15, 2019.

  2. In 1 Email, send your Headshot, Bio, Resume, 3 Contrasting Audio and/or Video Links in each registered category ('contrasting' means different composers, different languages, different periods and styles of music).  

  3. 2 Professional References' Contact Information.

  4. Identify how you heard about this Competition.

  5.  All links need to be labeled with your name, name of the work, composer, opera, etc.  

  6. Please note that any recording with a pre-recorded orchestral track or electric keyboard will not be accepted. 

  7. Semi-Finalists, Finalists, and Winners will be posted on the Lyra New York website.   We reserve the right to refrain from selecting singers in any category at any level of the Competition if the judges do not deem any singer to be of a high enough standard to qualify.   

  8. By registering and submitting your materials, you agree to allow Lyra New York to use your image and likeness for promotional and archival purposes only.

  9. Your contact information is never shared with any company, individual, or organization.

  10. If you are selected as a Finalist, you will be invited to sing at the Live Round in New York City, June 2020.

Singers!

1. We only accept links for audio and video (no mp3s).  

2. Singers who submit poor audio and/or video quality, will automatically be disqualified.  

3. Singers are legally responsible for obtaining copyright permission as required by law, for any works that are not in the public domain. 

Previous judges have included internationally renowned voice teacher Arthur Levy, opera manager Peter Randsman of Randsman Artists, Pamela Curzon, of Curzon Artist Management, international conductor and coach Daniel Beckwith (Glyndebourne, Metropolitan Opera, Convent Garden), well known opera stage director Marc Verzatt,  New York and Mississippi Opera conductor and coach Richard Nechamkin, New York opera conductor and coach Elizabeth Hastings,  New York voice teacher, stage director, and (founder of the Verdi Baritone Competition)  Judith Fredricks, and international performing artist and Lyra New York Director Zoe Vandermeer.  Our featured accompanist for the Live Rounds has been Michael Fennelly, and the Live Rounds have also had the good fortune of being photographed by Australian  Phil Brown of Gotham Portrait.
